Lego Masters Episode 2
After a great start to the season last week, it was time for the next episode of Lego Masters Season 5! I will not be mentioning everything that happened in the episode, as much of what happened throughout the episode was just pointless filler, so I will instead explain the challenge for the episode, how it worked, what everyone made, and the results.
The challenge for this episode was that each team would pick a box that had two minifigures in it, and they would have to make a wedding cake based on the two minifigures they picked. The teams that picked the same minifigures would be working together, making a total of five supergroups for the episode. They also had much less time than usual to build their cakes, with only four hours to build them. Also, the team that built the tallest cake was automatically going to be safe from elimination. Additionally, as part of the twist that occurred during the challenge, the contestants were told that they had only five minutes left to collect bricks from the Brick Pit, and after that, they could not collect any more bricks.
After time was up, it was time to judge each teams wedding cakes.
First up was the supergroup of Marcella and Krista and Alex and Tone, who got the minifigures of Corncob Guy and Carrot Mascot. Their wedding cake consisted of the wedding of Corny and Carrie, with the bottom level being how they met, working out in the garden, the next tier being their first date where they adopted a bunny, and by the third tier, Carrie is ready to propose to Corny, and at the top of the cake is the wedding which has a lot of bunnies, all their family, and closest friends. The Brickmasters loved that they had the actual wedding on the cake, as it transported them somewhere and showed how strong they were as storytellers, but there were some oversights, as there were gaps in the columns connecting to the platforms, and there were columns that were out of alignment.
Up next was the supergroup of Anthony and Joe and Corey and Rebecca, who got the minifigures of The Zoologist and The Scientist. The story with their cake was that Tonya is a researcher studying the love languages of tigers, and she went to the local tiger rescue, where she met Tony, the tall terrific tiger trainer, and they were able to spend a lot of time researching the love languages of tigers through melodious tones, music, and dancing, and they found love through the eyes of the tigers. The Brickmasters said that it felt like a wild wedding cake, they loved the cake topper, and they thought it was adorable to have their happy couple sitting on tigers on the top of the cake, but they did see an imbalance with their character representation, as the tiger striping was so dominant that it made them feel that character much more than the scientist, and they felt that the scientist actually felt more like a DJ, as they gave too much of a musical vibe.
Up next was the supergroup of John and Justin and Niki and Brittain, who got the minifigures of The Ferry Captain and The Ice Queen. The story was that once upon a time, there was a erry captain who sailed around the world on many adventures, and while traveling many years lonely, was able to take a little side boat over to a little island where he ran into the ice queen, who had also been lonely on her island and was thrilled to welcome a new visitor, and they fell in love. The Brickmasters said that their cake was delicious to look at, their restraint with the color was impressive, saying that it felt so real and delicious. Up next was the supergroup of Anne and Luke and Maya and Jamie, who got the minifigures of The T-Rex Fan and The Cardboard Robot. The story here began on the bottom tier, where their two heroes met at a Halloween costume party, they decided to leave the party, go to a coffee shop, and then take a walk in the park, and as they are walking through the park, they decide to get engaged, and then they go up the spiral tower to the top which has gears for the robot and leaf pieces for the dinosaur, and right at the top they are getting married. The Brickmasters were impressed that it was still standing, as the base of the core of their tower was so narrow, and it was so tall that they could barely even see the minifigures on the top, but they were struggling with the connection of the base and the tall tower, as they would have loved for it to be a different color so that it felt more like a cake and tied together as one, and they could also see the gray sticking out, which highlighted the engineering side of it and set them back from celebrating it overall. Will Arnett then measured their cake, and it was taller than the ruler, at 9 feet and 1 inch.
Up last was the supergroup of Ben and Michael and Sage and Ian, who got the minifigures of The Royal Guard and The Aristocrat. The story started at the bottom at a castle, where the aristocrat was set to marry the suitor, but soon realized that she wasn’t in love with him, so she ran to her room, and the guard was there to comfort her, so they started to go on dates swinging in the forest, and then he proposed to her on the beach and they got married, and she kicked the suitor off the top of the cake. The Brickmasters thought that it was an impressive cake, saying that their ambition was through the roof, and they definitely delivered a colossal wedding cake, and they also liked the drips of icing coming round from the top of the cake, but they wished they had done a little more of that, as that was where it took them away from a castle and a story to really believing that it was a real Lego cake.
After that, it was time to announce which supergroup had the tallest cake and was safe from elimination, and it was revealed to be Anne and Luke and Maia and Jamie. Then, it was time to announce which supergroup had the best wedding cake overall, and the winners were John and Justin and Niki and Brittain, which did not surprise me as their build had no criticisms compared to the other teams.
After that, it was time to announce which supergroups were in the bottom, and they were Marcella and Krista and Alex and Tone, and Anthony and Joe and Corey and Rebecca, which did not surprise me as they seemed to get the most criticisms. As soon as Will Arnett said that two teams were going to be eliminated, I knew that they were not going to eliminate anyone, as with only ten teams still in the competition and a season that is supposedly fourteen episodes long, they would not get rid of two teams right at the beginning of the competition, and I was quickly proven to be right.
Overall, this was another very good episode of Season 5 of Lego Masters, and I’ll see you all next week when the teams build jungle creatures that have to go down a waterfall!
