Lego Masters Premiere

After what seemed like a very long time, due to the show not releasing a new season in 2024, it was finally time for a new season of Lego Masters! I was greatly looking forward to this, as I always enjoy seeing all the creative builds that the teams come up with, I love hearing Brickmaster Amy’s Scottish accent, and it is easily the most wholesome reality competition show on TV. Before I get into this episode, I am going to share with you all the eleven teams of two this season.

The first team is Ian and Sage, two siblings from Wimberly, Texas.

The second team is Anne and Luke, a mother and son from Barrington, Illinois.

The third team is Alex and Tone, two siblings from Toronto, Ontario.

The fourth team is Niki and Brittain, two sisters who live in Clearwater, Florida and Spring Hill, Tennessee.

The fifth team is Anthony and Joe, a coach and a band director at a school in Katy, Texas.

The sixth team is Ben and Michael, two brothers who live in New Haven, Connecticut and Richmond, Indiana.

The seventh team is Corey and Rebecca, two wedding DJs from Lehi, Utah.

The eighth team is Maia and Jamie, a daughter and father from Hamilton, Ontario.

The ninth team is John and Justin, two friends from Austin, Texas and Dallas, Texas.

The tenth team is Nick and Kyndall, a brother and sister from Carmichael, California.

The eleventh and final team is Marcella and Krista, two friends from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The theme of the challenge in the first episode was Star Wars, which marked the first time that they repeated a challenge based on a certain property, as they did a Star Wars themed challenge all the way back in Season 1. When they had a Star Wars challenge in Season 1, there were also guest appearances from the characters C-3PO, R2-D2, and BB-8, and there were guest appearances from different Star Wars characters in this episode, which were Darth Vader and Stormtroopers.

The start of this episode was actually pretty funny, as Will Arnett said that he had the best copilots in the business, which made it seem like he was going to introduce the Brickmasters, and then Darth Vader came out, and I was initially thinking to myself that one of the two Brickmasters was inside the suit, but I was wrong, and it was just some other person who was never revealed.

At this point, it was revealed that behind Will was a bunch of Lego planets and a Lego Death Star, which destroyed the top half of each planet, and also brought them to the beginning of their first challenge. The teams had to take the remains of the destroyed planets and transform them into incredible worlds, and the Brickmasters said that what they were looking for was for the contestants’ personalities stood out in the worlds they created, and they would also be judged on creativity, storytelling, and technical ability.

The teams had ten hours to build their worlds, which might seem like a lot, but it is actually normal for this show. At one point, when clock was at two hours, the Stormtroopers destroyed it, meaning that the builders had to guess when time was up. I was initially surprised by this, as I thought that once it happened, it would immediately be fixed. A little later, Will decided to help out and let the teams know how much time they had left, and while I thought he was going to yell that they had one hour left like he always does, he instead yelled that they had one minute left.

After that, it was time for all the teams to present their builds.

First up was Sage and Ian, who built Puppy Planet, which had a giant fire hydrant that was the headquarters of their world, and to make it like a Death Star, lasers are shooting out of all four sides, the ruler of the land is Chewbacca, and sneaking into the land was a Sith Lord Squirrel with a Lightsaber. The reason why they chose this for their build was because they are both pet sitters. The judges were impressed by their build, as there were so many details including space helmets on the dogs.

Next up was Corey and Rebecca, who built Planet BU-tiful, which was an outdoor paradise that had a skiing and snowboarding slope, bungee jumping off a red rock arch that they built, Stormtroopers on a lazy river, and a campfire. The Brickmasters were impressed by the arch and the detail of the Stormtroopers in the lazy river.

Next up was Anthony and Joe, who built Jedi Academy on Planet Amoo, which featured a football game, a school band playing, a number of classrooms, Jedi training, and Force training. The Brickmasters were impressed by all the details, but they did note that it was not balanced very well.

Next up was Marcella and Krista, who built Planet Marista, which was a Jedi training academy, which featured a lot of interesting details that I am now realizing are almost the same as the previous one Lol. Brickmaster Amy then said that while there are many fantastic Jedi training stories, the problem with their build was that when she stepped away, she wanted everything to be bigger and exaggerated, and she also said that the building in the back was a missed opportunity to have a focal point. Brickmaster Jamie then said that their ambition was a bit too muted compared to the other team.

Next up was Ben and Michael, who built the planet BM225. On the surface, it had an inconspicuous mountainside, however, there was more beneath the surface, such as a moving Droid assembly line, Ben upstairs in the control room, checking on all the operations and trying to get a hold of Michael, whose mini figure is having a snack and monkeying around. The Brickmasters were very impressed with all the detail and storytelling in their build.

Next up was Alex and Tone, who built Intergalactic Skate Park. It consisted of a half pipe and a Cantina band setup with a DJ. The Brickmasters were impressed with their build, as they felt it showed off their personalities and it was made in such a way that they could hear music even though there wasn’t any playing.

Next up was Anne and Luke, who built Sweet Spot of the Galaxy. The story there was that there has been a shortage of sweets, and now there is a competition for candy treats, which includes candy cane tug of war and fighter pilots shooting each other down over sour crystals. Brickmaster Jamie then said that he loved that they went big, but the building was so powerful as a visual icon that the story didn’t come out enough.
Next up was Niki and Brittain, who built Verdura Nova. The story was that it was a planet run by two sisters, and due to the crystalline waters, lush vegetation grows ten times faster than on any other planet in the galaxy. Brickmaster Amy then said that she loved that they went bold with color, but she would push them on their timing to try and give them more volume.
Next up was Maia and Jamie, who built the Intergalactic Holistic Hospital. The story was that it caters to both Droids and creatures, and offers holistic treatments like yoga, sun bathing, and a mud bath. The Brickmasters were both impressed with this build, saying that they managed to take something that’s so decodable to our world today and instantly bring it to another world.

Next up was John and Justin, who built Planet J2-DA. The story was that it was a beautiful space with two enormous cities representing two friends from the different cities Dallas and Austin, and in front of the two cities is where everyone comes together in the Creature Park. The Brickmasters were impressed by the cityscape in the background, they thought that the balance overall was solid considering there was a massive city in the back, and they liked the crazy creatures at the front.

Last up was Nick and Kyndall, who built the planet of Harmonaria. The story was that it’s where heroes and villains take off their helmets and let their hair down, it has gardens, swimming holes, a Karaoke Cantina, and a Blue Milk Bar. The Brickmasters loved the idea behind the build, but they both thought that it was empty and that not knowing how much time they had affected them.

After that, it was time for the Brickmasters to announce which two teams were the top two for this week. The top two teams were Ben and Michael and Sage and Ian, which did not surprise me, as their builds seemed to be the ones they liked the most, and the winners were Ben and Michael, which also did not surprise me, as I found their build to be the most impressive.

After that, it was time for the Brickmasters to announce which two teams were the bottom two for this week. The bottom two teams were Nick and Kyndall and Marcella and Krista, which did not surprise me as both of their builds seemed a bit more minimalistic compared to the other builds. My dad was sure that Marcella and Krista would be going home, but I guessed correctly that Nick and Kyndall would be going home, as we were not properly introduced to Marcella and Krista this episode, but we were introduced to Nick and Kyndall.

Overall, this was a great start to Season 5 of Lego Masters, and I’ll see you all next week when the teams have to build wedding cakes!
