Lego Masters Episode 7

After taking last week off, it was time for the next episode of Lego Masters! As always, I am only going to be talking about the important details in the episode.

For this weeks challenge, The teams had to make a wearable mask to go along with a dress for a masquerade ball, and each team had to wear what they built. Both Brickmaster Jamie and Amy dressed up in accordance to the challenge, and they were wearing outfits that made me hope they were getting paid extra to wear them, as Jamie was wearing an outfit that can best be described as what The Beast wore in Beauty and The Beast, while Amy was wearing a dress that was clearly bigger than her.

After build time was up, Anne and Luke, who had won the Golden Brick in the previous challenge, were asked if they wanted to use it for that challenge, and they said they wanted to.

The first team to present their build was Sage and Ian, who built a mask that they called Guardian of the Forest. The mask had a large waterfall dripping down the face, a halo of a sun, and leaves coming down the face, almost as if the dress is one with the mask. The Brickmasters loved their build, acknowledging that Sage’s dream was probably coming true, as she was a huge fan of the past challenge where contestants had to make a wearable Lego hat, and they loved the playfulness of the build, as it looked like it was actually fabric, and the trees gave a wonderful silhouette.

The next team to present their build was Corey and Rebecca, who built a mask that they called Lady Allure. It was built using a combination of mixel joints and stud up and stud out building techniques, while also adding some pink to add a pop of playfulness. The Brickmasters admired the fact that Rebecca strutted out there and gave them some dance moves, and knew that the mask would hold up, as well as the fact that the mask itself was asymmetrical, as brought some drama to it, but they felt that it was on the small side and they could have pushed themselves with one big detail. After that criticism, I knew that they weren’t going to be in the top, but I also knew they weren’t going to be in the bottom, they were going to end up in the middle.

The next team to present their build was Anthony and Joe, who built a mask that they called Professor Peacock. Before they could walk out to the Brickmasters, they experienced some trouble, as the massive feathers weren’t connecting to the head, which made me think that either they wouldn’t and they would be in trouble, or they would and they would have an amazing build. They eventually connected, and they were able to walk towards the Brickmasters with no trouble at all. The mask had a long beak at the front, contouring with a lot of different shades of blue and huge green feathers using a bunch of wedge plates. The Brickmasters said that it was an ambitious build, they loved the feathering details, and they were clever to use three different shades of blue, and almost like a feather-like feel on the head with the curved shapes, and also describing it as an engineering marvel that looked beautiful, had a real reach, not only vertically, horizontally, front, back, and the fact that they were able to pull it together and make it work.

The next team to present their build was Anne and Luke, who built a mask they called Warrior Goddess. The mask had flaming horns and long dreadlocks, incorporated various shades of tan, gold, and translucent red to make her eyes really pop. The Brickmasters loved that they used reds and transparent details, as it brought a kind of opulence and elegance that tied it together with the outfit, but they understood why they chose to use the Golden Brick, as there were some polishing details that were missing, and some very rough shapes on there, specifically on the top, but they liked the fact that they tried to do something bold, and it did feel otherworldly.

The next team to present their build was Maia and Jamie, who built a mask they called Red Dragon. The mask was red to match the red and gold costume, it had lots of ornate details with the little gold embellishments, and the defining feature was the large prominent snout on the front. The Brickmasters could tell that they put a lot of time and energy into building the top, but it was also where maybe when they were attaching the snout that it didn’t feel as polished, and they also challenged the fact that the mask was red all the way around, as they felt it highlighted the fact that it was a more basic structure than some of the other teams, and they spent too much time trying to incorporate power functions into the lower part of the jaw that it weakened their build and made it a vulnerability and made them worried that they wouldn’t have anything to present in the challenge.

The last team to present their build was Ben and Michael, who built a mask they called Forlorn Flora. As they were walking towards the Brickmasters, everything seemed to be going fine, and they were impressed with the build, but then suddenly, parts of it broke off right then and there. The mask itself had a green helmet and face plating, while wanting to bring out the emotion with the white detailing similar to the lace on the petticoats, and it was also sad for the drama entering the scene, where the eyes are down with the frown face, and as they moved through, Michael tilted up the eyes and then rotated the mouth to bring about that surprise and happiness. The Brickmasters acknowledged that they made a theatrical entrance and had an expressive mask, as they were the only team to give it two expressions, but it had a weak point, and the sides that offered a lot to the mask were on the floor.

After that, it was time for the Brickmasters to announce the top two teams, which were Sage and Ian and Anthony and Joe, which did not surprise me. The winning team was then revealed to be Anthony and Joe, which did not surprise me because their build was very impressive.
Then, it was time for the Brickmasters to announce the bottom two teams, which were Ben and Michael and Maia and Jamie, which did not surprise me. They then announced that the team that would be going home was Maia and Jamie, which did not surprise me, as while Ben and Michael’s build fell apart in front of them, they did seem more impressed by it, and Maia and Jamie had been struggling a lot at this point in the season.

Overall, this was another great episode of Season 5 of Lego Masters, and I’ll see you all next week when the teams have to build exact replicas of objects out of Lego bricks!
